Can you help me with the next sentence?
Can you help me with the next sentence?
PLEASE HELP ME, I DONT UNDERSTAND THIS SENTENCE, (CHEMISTRY) 10 POINTS BEAT ANSWER?

it says: in a polyatomic ion, the atoms are connected by covalent bonds. But than in the next sentence it says : the negatively charged dichromate ion is connected by ionic bonds to positive potassium ions ? (but before it said ALL polyatomic ions are connected by covalent bons? please explain for me.
This sentence says: Covalent and ionic bonds can be found in the same compound. (can you explain what tis means)

Also can you explain this sentence: It is possible for some molecules to gain or lose one or more electrons as their atoms combine to form a molecule.

(if possible explain the fallowing with examples)

Also when it says polyatomic ions does it mean that the molecule/ that compound has gained or lost electrons?

and how do you know if 2 different atoms are connected by a covalent bond or ionic bond.

thank you so much, 10 POINTS BEST ANSWER

how are atoms held together in a covalent compound.

The atoms in a polyatomic ion are connected to EACH OTHER by covalent bonds.

At this point, this cluster of atoms acts as a unit.

It is this entire unit that loses an electron to become ionic -- an ionic cluster of atoms (covalently bonded to EACH OTHER) which acts as a unit that can form ionic bonds

For example, a hydroxide ion is made of one oxygen atom and one hydrogen atom:
~ the O and the H are bonded to EACH OTHER covalently
~ But the entire group has a charge of −1
~ so its chemical formula is (OH)−
