how do i find the value of stamps in my collection?
I have been handed down a large amount of old world wide stamp collection and have no idea how to find out what they are worth.
There are a few ways but the web is not one of them as there is no source for this.
1 The most reputable source for valuing stamps is the Scott Catalogue that every serious stamp collector is well familiar. However, it is six volumes and the most current volume of each costs about $60 - $70 new.

Some libraries may have the Scott Catalogue.
2. You will definitely find prior years’ volumes much more cheaply at used book booksellers such as Abe’s

The value of the stamps will not have changed much in most cases so this would be a good alternative.
3. You can take them to a reputable stamp dealer for an estimate of their value. And yes, he/she will charge you for doing this. But if you are like me, I always like to paraphrase Inspector Closseau (Peter Sellers) of the Serte':
I trust everyone AND I trust no one.
Another example is people who send gold through the mail to a company that will give them ‘FULL VALUE’ for their gold is a joke. People that do this are either stupid or desperate or BOTH.
