In what Winter Olympic Sports is Canada most likely to win a gold medal for 2010?
Canada was shut out of winning a gold medal at their last home Olympics 1988. Do you predict the prospects for success will be higher?
1988 was a long time ago. We barely invested any money towards supporting Olympic athletes. Using that as your judge doesn't tell you much.
In the last winter Olympics Canada was fifth overall in medals (24), with 7 gold, 10 silver, and 7 bronze.
I'd probably guess hockey, curling, some kind of skating and skiing for sure. It's pretty impossible to predict but I'd say it's a given that we'll have a good spread of medals.

Winter Sports Fun for All the Family
It's one thing to schedule a winter sports break with friends or adult family members, but with children involved, the challenges may seem like more hassle than they’re worth at first.
First of all, there’s a need to match the activities offered with the age of the people attending: young children probably won’t want to whiz at breakneck speeds down the face of a mountain. Even if the children are a little older, a ski resort for the whole family can be a very expensive endeavour. So getting the right activities at the right price is crucial when organising a break at a winter sports resort.
For those who wish to venture a little further afield, then Canada is a veritable hotspot for quality winter sports breaks. For family-friendly resorts, Whistler Blackcomb in British Columbia offers a wide range of activities for all age groups. This includes kids-only activities and ones where mum and dad can get involved too.
With a magic castle and tree fort, the cost-free outdoor adventure centres are designed to engage the imagination of youngsters (and the not-so-young!), whilst tubing, dog-sledding, heliskiing and ice-climbing are also available for winter sports enthusiasts.
Indeed, Whistler Blackcomb even has facilities for parents to dump the little ones – in the nicest possible way, of course – at adventure camps that offer ski lessons specifically for kids. The oldies can then disappear and do their own thing in peace for the day.
Anyone who has ever been on a winter sports holiday with children will confirm that there are practicalities that they simply never considered when they holidayed without them: walks to the ski lift, bus transfers, nursery slopes, ski-school competency, crèche facilities…the list goes on. For those seeking family-friendly resorts in Europe, there are a few destinations worth considering.

Of course, winter sports travel insurance is a must for any adventure on the slopes and this is normally not included in standard travel insurance, so it’s really worthwhile checking that the whole family is adequately covered. With that in place, all that leaves you with is to enjoy what could be the family holiday of a lifetime!
